Le Corbusier

Le Corbusier's is a Swiss-born French architect, designer, urbanist, writer and painter. He was born on 6th October 1887 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. He studied at the La-Chaux-de-Fonds Art School under Charles L'Eplattenier. He was one of the pioneers of modern architecture.

Le Corbusier's philosophy

His designs and structural idea in architecture, urban planning and furniture design, are based on his theory of functionalism and in the use of new symbols.

In his book he defined three different furniture types:

  • Type-needs
  • Type-furniture
  • Human-limb objects

Corbusier said:
"Chairs are architecture, sofas are bourgeois." His furniture products is a great way to add both form and function to the decor of a home or office.

His work

The most famous of his furniture work are iconic LC-1, LC-2, LC-3, and LC-4, originally titled "Basculant". The metal furniture designed by him became successful worldwide. It is an irony that their technical complexities made them become luxury items and status symbols. His beautiful iconic LC-1, LC-2, LC-3, and LC-4 chair is exceptionally comfortable, and is recognized as Le Corbusier one of most important design.
